But, what’s another thing you’d love to have? Meaning. You don’t want to go into the office every day, check your email, and then head home. You’re looking for work that matters, and you want to change the world around you.

You have the skills—now put them to good use. Here are five jobs that are revolutionizing the world of technology, and better yet, Lockheed Martin is hiring right now.

1. Autonomy Engineer

Technology is transforming how humans and machines work together. That’s why jobs in autonomous helicopters, underwater vehicles and aerial systems continue to surge.

A director of autonomy, Igor Cherepinsky, describes the autonomy field as “essentially open-ended” as one can always improve—building better and more intelligent systems as time goes on.

“In the span of two days, you can go from concept, to equations and algorithms, to testing in our lab, to flying things in an aircraft,” Cherepinksy explains. “You never stop learning in this field.”

2. Data Scientist

These individuals are data wranglers—they use their knowledge to convert huge amounts of data into actionable insights about everything from technology development to improved pilot performance.

Data scientist Amanda Kraft explores patterns and relationships in large groups of data gathered from 35 human subjects in flight simulators to determine when a pilot is stressed, disengaged or stimulated. Too much stress can cause pilot burnout and too little can cause pilot boredom and distraction. “I’m looking at multiple data points, including heart rate, breathing rate, neural activity, and blink duration, to determine a pilot’s optimal workload,” shares Kraft.

3. Radio Frequency Engineer

Our tech-centric world would not be possible without the work of radio frequency (RF) engineers. These engineers work with everything that transmits or receives a radio wave, including Wi-Fi, mobile phones—you name it.
“The RF field is very broad. For example, I work with spacecraft antennas, but I have colleagues that work with missiles and aircraft sensor systems,” shares Shane Layton, RF engineering manager. “At any given time, my team is working on 10 or more projects, ranging from antennas that support weather forecasting to connecting warfighters across the globe.”

4. Advanced Analytic Analysts

These technology professionals are taking on some of Aeronautics most important and complex challenges. Using advanced analytical techniques, these individuals transform big data into insights that can drive action and open whole new worlds.
Technology advancements in quantum allow advanced analysts, like Chad Hall, to address complex problems that can have hundreds of potential solutions. “We are going down an artificial intelligence journey to teach machines to do different things, while enabling them to learn,” shared Hall. “I enjoy being on a journey of endless possibilities.”

5. SENSOR ENGINEER

Enabling everything from smart homes, to health monitoring devices to applications on the military side, and robotics, drones and agricultural tracking, the sensor market is rapidly growing. Hint, hint—engineers are in demand.

In this field, you’re able to experience many different aspects of engineering, from design and packaging to algorithms, materials and optics. Mechanical engineer Charlie Hawes works with a team of scientists and engineers to design, build and test sensors that are placed on aircraft all over the world.

“My job gives me a wide range of opportunities and experiences I never dreamed of,” Hawes shared.
